Fortunately for Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic, people who have studied medicine have examined his horribly swollen right eye and tell him that he should have no lasting damage from an orbital contusion he suffered Saturday night from an accidental elbowing.
That should be some comfort because on Sunday, the injury worsened and his vision was impaired.
“I cannot even see in the right eye,” Dragic said (via the Miami Herald). “I didn’t imagine it was going to be so bad. The right eye is completely closed. The doctor checked the eye last night. He said the eye is fine. Just swelling. We will do treatment swelling down. There’s just pressure. No pain.”
Dragic was hurt when Cory Joseph of the Toronto Raptors accidentally elbowed him in the eye in the third quarter of the Heat’s victory in Miami. Not surprisingly, Dragic was declared out of the Miami’s game Sunday night in Indianapolis.
By Sunday, there were jokes about “Rocky” and “Cut me, Mick.”
“He was less than half joking this morning about cutting the eye so he could see like Rocky. Everyone is calling him Rocky, Drago, everything,” Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra said (via the Sun Sentinel). “He really wanted to play. But the smart thing to do is to sit him and hopefully the swelling will be down by Wednesday” against New Orleans.
